Verified Purchase. Every three years Intuit forces Quickbooks users to upgrade to their new software or lose access to their online banking info. This is not optional. Every three years I swear to myself that next time I will migrate to a new accounting software because Intuit corp has the WORST customer service on the planet, has buggy online software, and forces you to create an online account to use their desktop program.
I've just spent the last hour trying to access my desktop PC accounts because Intuit "software registration" program is so buggy that it won't work. I can't say I dislike a company more than Intuit. My accountants still prefer QB, so that's what I use for my business.
They and I also prefer the Desktop version of the product: the whole "software as an annuity" business model leaves me cold. As for the version of Desktop Pro: 17 years in, it was the fastest and easiest install of QB ever -- and that was done using the disc.
I tried the URL noted on the box, but it took me to a marketing page, and I wasn't going to hunt for the download link. After completing the install, importing the company file, and finishing a few minor bits of housekeeping, everything was running just fine under Windows Next, I ran the update routine manually: it downloaded 1.
After installing, restarting, etc. This, too, was successful and seems to be well in my QB world. In all, I'm pleasantly surprised by the update-and-migrate experience.
Upgraded to QB '21 from my old '13 version. Tech and uprades were dropped and it would kick off every so often, so it was a matter of time. Installed the disc, put in the license and it dowloaded the program with all my data installed perfectly. Have three different accounts so I had to use a new password in each one, that was it.
Has run for two months with no problems. Kinda pricey but losing my data made it worth it. Not sure where all the complaints are coming from but here's one happy customer. This product is awful. Everyone should know up front that Quickbooks Desktop and Quickbooks Online are absolutely utterly completely different beings.
They look nothing like one another in the user interface, menus, and features. Finding this Desktop version impossible to figure out on my own, I went online to look at some of the tutorials.
And if you enter something incorrectly, it is so interconnected that it's difficult to delete B because it is transactionally linked somehow to A and C This makes learning by experimentation extra difficult. I found the pricing kind of sleazy, too. If you sign up, you get the first 3 months at half price. If you think you absolutely must use QB, then go for the Online version. I returned it and used a completely different product for my accounting. I have used quickbooks for many, many years both at places I have worked as a bookkeeper and when I had my own business.
I am retired now but still use it for our personal financial information. The version that I had was and wasn't going to be supported anymore so I needed a new version. This is it! Still a good package, and I wanted the desktop version.
More expensive than it has been but it looks like Intuit is trying to get past having desktop versions of their software.
Everything now days seems to a subscription or a cloud based thing and I refuse to go anywhere near the cloud if I can help it. Glad that I could get this. I've used QB for years. Never before had a problem installing from a CD. Cost is now ridiculous.
Just using it for a small set of church books. QB is about to price itself out of the market. I don't have a huge laptop and was concerned that the open windows of the app would be cut off, but they seem to scale well.
